Introduction

CentOS 6 comes with only Tomcat 6 in the standard package distribution.  To avoid installing Tomcat manually, historically, we have been recommending to install Tomcat7 from the JPackage repository.  However, as of January 2018, this project appears to be abandoned.  And since late 2017, EPEL now offers Tomcat7.  We therefore recommend installing Tomcat7 on CentOS 6 / RHEL6 systems from EPEL.

Procedure

Excerpt

Tomcat 7 is available for CentOS from the EPEL repository. Use the following commands to install Tomcat 7:

Code Block
shell
shell
yum localinstall https://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/epel-release-latest-6.noarch.rpm

yum install tomcat
chkconfig tomcat on
service tomcat start
